Lovely Lund
So, with some last minute scrambling, we tacked on a 10 day business trip to Sweden to the end of a Scotland holiday in late July. Dan wanted a chance to work with new colleagues in Lund, Sweden and we came here by way of Copenhagen. Lund is a small university town in the southern region of Skane, practically a suburb of the larger city of Malmo, which lies just across the Oresund Strait from Copenhagen in Denmark.
Since we arrived late, we took a taxi across the Oresund Bridge, which is part tunnel, part epic bridge, into Sweden. The company originally put us up at a hotel on the edge of town, which could have been in any suburban neighborhood in the western world but moved us into the heart of the old town to facilitate Dan’s getting to work….way better for me as well as we’re now in the thick of everything and it’s a lovely old town.
Swedish Summer
It’s an interesting time of year to be here, as it’s warm and sunny, but a lot of Swedes are on vacation and a lot of places are closed. And university students are mostly not here as well. So it’s quieter than usual but there do seem to be lots of families on holiday here, and quite a few summer festival activities all around. I think I’m most surprised by the diversity here as well as the many ethnic food choices. It hit 90 degrees F here today but I guess that’s still better than 100+ at home. Everyone wants to be outside every minute they can because 90 or not, winter is always coming.
We’ve both figured out the public transportation systems around here but while Dan takes a tram to get to work, I mostly tool around on foot, as I’ve yet to get up the courage to do the scooter thing. Here I have a collection of photos and videos from out and about Lund proper. The cathedral here is from the 12th century and houses a really special astrological clock. Lund University was started in 1666. There is a beautiful, cobblestoned old town and plenty of modern and innovative companies and institutions. I spent a lot of time in the first rate Botanical Gardens. It has been a lovely week or so getting to know this warm and friendly place as not exactly a tourist.
